These beautiful birds love to sing and chirp, and are a great choice for beginning pet parents. Welcome to the website of the Finch Society of Australia Inc. Society Finches were developed by selective breeding of other types of finches, and are not found in the wild. They have an appropriate name as they are comfortable around people. They can be housed in groups or mixed with other finches. Society finches are good pet birds for all ages, but they are especially appealing to older people because they are brightly colored and sing without. It does not and never did exist in the wild. The society finch, also known as the Bengalese, is unique in that it is a cultivated variety of bird for which there is no wild population. My Society finches are maintained on a mixture that contains 50 Finch Mix and 50 Parakeet Mix. These sounds are often described as beeps, chatter, and warbles, but they also sing. Speech and Vocalizations Finches do not talk or scream, but they do make some sounds. They thrive with a mate or a few other birds in their home. However, they do not make too much sound to render them unsuitable to be kept in an apartment.Until further notice all meetings will be held via zoom and/or streamed on youtube Society finches get their name from their social personalities and make wonderful breeders and parents. Their sounds are sharp chirps, made most when they are in a group, or with other birds. Sounds and singing: Most finches are quite birds however, there are some species that do sing, including canaries, European goldfinches, and house finches. They do not like to be handled, but hand-reared finches can get attached to their humans enough to be trained to come and sit on the fingers on cue. Unlike parrots, finches are perfectly content in each other’s company when they do not get much interaction with their owner. They are cheerful, active, entertaining, and robust. Behavior & temperamentįinches are easy-going birds that would not be taking up much of your time. Make sure to provide a well-balanced diet containing fresh and pelleted foods. Bathe your finch at least once a week (preferably daily during the summer).Replace the food and water dishes every day, putting in new ones.Clean the cage on a weekly basis, and disinfect it once every month.
